How to Raise Your Credit Score to 740?

There is one way to deal with the post-crisis economy. That is to improve your credit score. It may seem far-fetched for some people in such dire straits to believe that they can raise their score to 740 but it is possible.

First do whatever you can to raise your income if you are not paying your bills. This is paramount as it would be the first step towards fixing your credit.

You also have to not be afraid to use credit if you want to have a credit score at all. This often is the case for younger people. However, it could pertain to someone who has paid with cash for an entire lifetime and then finally wants to get a home loan. (Although paying cash would be best it does not help improve your credit score.)

Pay off your credit card balances on time. It helps immensely if you pay the balances off within the grace period. It is, by the way, not necessary to pay credit card interest in order to raise your credit score.

Never expect instant results. Repairing your credit can take months or years depending what is on your record. This is especially true if you have a bankruptcy or foreclosure on your record.

Make sure you keep an eye on your credit report. You should check your Experian, Equifax, or TransUnion records on a regular basis.

Do whatever you can to prevent further disputes on bills from going to collections. This can hurt you in many ways.

Arrange automated payments whenever possible. This will help discipline you better to save money. This works best when you know you have a regular income.

Use your credit cards at least once in awhile. You do not always want to max them out but never using them could hurt your credit score.

Limit amounts of further loan/financing applications. This includes inquiries for car loans as well as for unsecured debt. Usually it is best to apply for one or two loans at a time and wait for approval before trying to apply for any more.

Change spending habits. Be more careful about spending more money than you actually can pay back on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis.
